Naam Shabana Movie Review

“Naam Shabana” or entitled in English “The name is Shabana.” The films is an action thriller.

It isn’t a sequel but a spin-off film based on the 2015 film Baby. In “Baby”  the story follows  a team who is assembled after the 2008 attacks in Mumbai and their job is to locate and eradicate the terrorists.

Taapsee Pannu rejoins this cast playing the same character Shabana.  This time she is the female lead. She is a female spy and the film following her spy’s life and her team. It tells the story of how Shabana ultimately became a spy and her journey up until the present.

She loses someone she loves and because she wasn’t able to protect them she feels the guilt of their death on her. She is basically scouted out of all these potential recruits and is asked to the join the agency. Shabana trains hard and kicks butt even along the way in her training.

Shabana is recruited to help bring in notorious criminal Tony pretty much by herself. With the exception of one older male officer. She exceeds not only her expectations but the expectations of the agency as well. She isn’t afraid to do the job by herself even when the men are.

She pretty much takes over and finds her own purpose on this mission and in the agency itself. Shabana even though out of heartbreak was born to be a spy and she’s a natural at it.

The agency’s goal is to protect the “national security of India at any costs.” So, it just goes to show far they will go to ensure the safety of India.

Taapsee trained and prepared tirelessly for in preparation for this role. She trained in mixed martial arts, Kudo, and Israeli originated Krav Maga.

For the film to become more accessible to audiences they have not only the Hindi version but it will be in Tamil and Telugu languages as well.

Shooting for the film started in September of 2016. Filming locations included locations throughout Malaysia and in Mumbai as well.

To lend to the reality of the film the producer (Neeraj Pandey) even consulted with a former intelligence officer.

The writer of the film (Neeraj Pandey) is also responsible for producing as well.

The music for “Naam Shabana” is arranged and composed by Rochak Kohli and The Meets Bros. With the lyrics penned by Manoj Muntashir and Kumaar. The music production is by T-Series. The background score was arranged and composed by Sanjoy Chowdhury. The soundtracks feature four songs in keeping with the film’s themes. Rozana,

Poorna Movie Review

“Poorna : Courage Has No Limit”

The film is in inspired by the real life story of a 13-year-old tribal girl Poorna Malavath from Telangana a southern state in India.  Poorna, who went on to become the youngest girl in history to scale Mount Everest on May 25th, 2014.

Poorna is played by Aditit Inamdaar.  Poorna and her cousin Priya (played by S. Mariya). Are very close almost like sisters and they share a special relationship.

Together, they dream of escaping their low caste and poverty based life. They have the idea to run to the Social Welfare School as they hear will give them the education and basic necessities they need.

Regrettably, their plans are thwarted as Priya’s father finds out and catches them just when they are about to run off to find freedom.

Sadly, Priya’s father marries off to punish her and keep traditions alive. Thankfully, though, Poorna works tirelessly to try to make up her father’s mind to let her go to the Social Welfare School.

Through her time at the school, she comes to understand that her life really can get better and a good future awaits her. While at the school, she meets Dr RS Praveen Kumar (played by Rahul Bose) who shows her there is more to life and that Poorna has a purpose in this world.

Sometimes hard to watch, as it deals with many realities of those living in poverty today.

The good news is that hope prevails and one person’s destiny despite how the current path may look can be altered with perseverance, hope, and good mentors.

The film brings to light and discusses many important topics. These include child brides, discrimination of class and women and exploitation in a society of those who should be advocates for others because of their position.

A very sad scene was Poorna and her friends were playing a game where they talk about how each one is the poorest of the group. There is sweetness to the scene but it’s also heartbreaking at the same time.

A very heroic inspiring true story. But its focus on her upbringing and struggles more than her bravery in the tackling Mount Everest.

Features heartfelt realistic acting by the performers.

Aditi Inamadar delivers a powerful performance in her role as Malavath Poorna. Bringing sensitivity, innocence, determination, and hope to the role and the story.

It’s filmed and set in a Pakala village.

Poorna” is directed, produced, and is starring Rahul Bose. This is Bose’s second movie in the director’s chairs.

Music for the film is arranged and composed by Salim-Sulaiman. Salim is part of the talented composing due of him and his brother. They have worked on the music many of today’s Hindi films.

This year at the Palms Springs International Film Festival it was chosen to be screened. It also awarded on the list of the festivals 30 best films.

Bhanwarey Movie Review

“Bhanwarey” is categorized as a dark comedy.

This is a crazy story of how a group of three guy friends end up in the craziest situations and how they end up getting out of them.

Its main topics is dealing with guys who have sexual health problems. Showing really just the lengths people with the issue will go to solve them.

It discusses this topic with a mix of humor and a little sadness as well. The group as they go throughout the movie in trying to find remedies for the issues runs into many shady characters along the way. All of them promising the best cure for their problems many times ending up with hilarious and even dangerous results.

The group goes on the run as many people don’t discuss this problem. They get chased by local sketchy drug peddlers, their dissatisfied girlfriends, and even the cops get involved.

They end up having a night they can’t remember and trying to piece together the puzzle and retrace their steps. The guys get kidnapped and can only remember a few things from the night before. So, in order to save not only their friendships but their lives depend on figuring out what happened during the night before and  the mystery of the missing hours.

Despite, all they go through the film encourages people to stay on the right path.  Also, through these friends’ mishaps they end up meeting with quack doctors. They aren’t helpful at all and are   only trying to make quick money off of peoples unfortunate medical problems.  Even, leading many people into trying quick fix remedies that may end up making things worse. They are called “Jhola Chaap” doctors.

Our cast includes Manoj Bakshi as Maqsood Bhai, Karhan Dev as Pushpender Vohra, Priyanka Shukla as Sonia Kharbanda, Jashan Singh as Machchinder Pal Singh Sodhi and Shaurya Singh.

The cast is overall very young which brings more of a light hearted approach to the film. Since, on average younger demographics don’t have as much of problems with these issues.

Surprisingly, due to the topic the movie isn’t obscene or vulgar. Which, would make it more approachable to audiences.

It seems to be a hit with critics and the fans alike due to a subject no one usually discusses. It’s told in a funny way but also deals with the reality of the problem as well. It bring up the topic to bring awareness and for their not be so much shame associated with it.

Shaurya Singh not only acts but is also the writer, producer, and the director for the film.

Music is arranged and composed by Sourabh Chatterjee and Gaurav Ratnakar
